Overview

This guide explains the macOS Gatekeeper issues that affect the SplashID Mac Key Safe app and the SplashID Safe Mac Desktop app (version 8.2.3 released in October 2019). It provides detailed steps to allow the apps to run successfully.

Problem

On macOS 10.15 Catalina, when trying to run SplashID Safe Mac Desktop app version 8.2.3 (October 2019 release), you may see a message stating “SplashID Safe can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.”, and the app is blocked from launching.

Solution

  1. If the alert appears, you need to explicitly allow the app to run.

  2. Click the Apple logo in the top-left corner of your screen and go to System Preferences > Security & Privacy.

  3. At the bottom of the Security & Privacy screen, click the Open Anyway button.

  4. Complete the confirmation steps to launch SplashID Safe.

After doing this once, you will not need to repeat the process.

SplashID Mac Key Safe App

Problem:
On macOS X 10.8 or newer, you may find the Mac Key Safe app blocked when trying to run it. The system may display errors such as “Developer cannot be identified” or “The app is damaged.”

Solution:

  1. Go to System Preferences > Security.

  2. Click the lock in the bottom-left corner to authenticate.

  3. Under Allow applications downloaded from, select Anywhere.

  4. Run the SplashID Mac Key Safe app again.

  5. Once the app is running, return to System Preferences and change the security setting back to Mac App Store and identified developers.
