The information below applies to the latest SplashID Safe 8.4.x mobile apps and was last updated in August 2025.
SplashID Safe mobile apps and desktop apps support several ways to back up and restore your data. Options depend on your platform (iOS/iPadOS or Android) and sync mode (No Sync, WiFi Sync, Cloud Sync).
The iOS/iPadOS app does not support local automatic or manual backups because of system restrictions. However, you can manually back up and restore data to remote or local locations.
To access backup options:
Tap the menu button (top left, three lines)
Tap Settings
Scroll down to the backup options
Send Records (via email): Send a copy of your records by email.
Share Securely: Share selected data securely with another person.
Dropbox Export/Import: Export or import data in vID, SVID, or CSV format.
First use requires Dropbox account authorization.
You must remember the password set for Dropbox backups—without it, the backup cannot be imported.
Export SplashID vID to iTunes: (added in version 8.1.6, Aug 2017)
Connect your device to iTunes on a PC/Mac via WiFi or USB.
In iTunes, go to File Sharing, select SplashID, and drag backup files to your computer.
These files can then be used in the SplashID Desktop or Web app.
iTunes backup of the whole device: iTunes can back up your entire iPhone or iPad, including SplashID data.
To connect your SplashID app to a different Dropbox account:
Visit Dropbox Connected Apps on your computer.
Find SplashID app in the list, expand it, and click Disconnect.
Next time you export to Dropbox, you’ll be prompted to choose a new Dropbox account.
The Android app has no automatic local backups but offers more backup/restore methods than iOS, including saving to the local file system.
To access backup options:
Tap the menu button (top left, three lines with SplashID logo)
Tap Settings
Choose Manage or Share
Backup & Restore: Save data to local storage or microSD card and restore when needed.
Export/Import vID/SVID: Export or import via local storage, Dropbox, or email.
Remember the Dropbox backup password for successful restores.
Export CSV: Export data in CSV format for external use.
Share Securely: Share selected data securely with another person.
To switch to a different Dropbox account:
Visit Dropbox Connected Apps.
Find SplashID app, expand it, and click Disconnect.
Next time you export to Dropbox, you can connect a new account.
If your mobile data is lost, missing, or corrupted, these are the best restore options:
WiFi Sync:
Sync data back from your PC/Mac Desktop app.
On PC: set Sync Settings to Desktop overwrites device.
On Mac: set Sync Settings to Mac overwrites mobile device.
Back up your Desktop app data first by exporting to vID or SVID.
Ensure all Desktop and Mobile apps are updated (as of August 2025: 8.4.5/8.4.1 for Mac/PC Desktop, 8.4.4 for iOS, 8.4.2 for Android).
Cloud Sync:
If the Web app has the most recent data, delete the mobile app, reinstall it from the App Store or Google Play, and log in again.
No Sync / Standalone Mode:
iOS/iPadOS: Restore from a recent iTunes device backup if available. Dropbox Import may also work.
Android: Restore using backups created via the options above (local storage, Dropbox, email, etc.).
For PC/Mac Desktop app backup and restore instructions, refer to the Desktop Backup/Restore documentation (linked separately in the help center).
