What is new in SplashID Pro 9.x + extra FAQs?


Introduction

SplashID Pro 9.0 is our first major upgrade in over eight years.

  • Release timeline: Open Beta began on January 9, 2023, and the official release was on April 27, 2023.

  • Latest version: 9.4.0, released October 21st, 2025.

This release brings a wide range of improvements over the old 8.4.x apps. Here are the key highlights (not a complete list).

Key Features in SplashID Pro 9.x

Notes

You can now have unlimited notes per record, with up to 10,000 characters each. Previously, only one note of up to 4,000 characters was allowed.

File Attachments

Attach up to 5 files per record, each up to 2 MB in size. Earlier versions supported only 1 file of up to 1 MB.

Password Recovery

A new Recovery Kit file lets you reset your password without losing any data. This was not possible in 8.4.x apps.

Record Categorization

In addition to Types and Categories, you can now add custom text tags to records. This allows better organization and faster searching.

Search for icons by typing keywords such as “car,” “bank,” or “house.” This feature did not exist in older apps.

Archive and Deleted Sections

  • Archive: Move rarely used or older records out of sight without deleting them.

  • Deleted: Recently deleted records are stored here and can be restored or permanently removed.

Improved Fonts

Fonts have been updated so characters like uppercase “I” and lowercase “l” no longer look similar, improving readability.

Two-Factor Authentication (2FA)

You can now secure your account using authenticator apps such as Google Authenticator, Authy, or Microsoft Authenticator. As before, only one 2FA method can be active at a time.

Biometric Login

SplashID supports Windows Hello (fingerprint or facial recognition) on Windows 10/11, and Touch ID is supported again on Mac desktops from version 9.3.0 onward.

Flexible 2FA Sessions

Choose how long to save your 2FA login—just once, 1 day, 1 month, etc. Each app shows its active 2FA duration in its settings.

TOTP Support

SplashID can generate TOTP codes, making it possible to log in to banks and other services that require one-time passcodes.

Local PIN Unlock

Unlock your app using your full password, a shorter PIN, or biometrics. This option was not available in older versions.

Custom Fields

There is no longer a limit on the number of fields per record. You can freely add, remove, or rename fields. The old apps were limited to 9 fixed fields.

Easier Desktop App Updates

Desktop apps are now distributed through the Microsoft Store (Windows) and Mac App Store (macOS). This makes installation and updates easier, and provides native support for modern Mac chips (M1, M2, M3, M4/etc).

1. Where do I download the latest apps?

The latest desktop and mobile apps are available here:

System requirements:

  • Windows 10 or newer

  • macOS Catalina 10.15 or newer

  • iOS 13 / iPadOS 13 or newer

  • Android 6.0 or newer

Desktop apps are no longer available from our website. If you cannot access the Microsoft Store or Mac App Store, you won’t be able to install the desktop app. However, you can still use the web app in a browser.

2. Why can’t I log in with my old (8.x) account?

Accounts from 8.x do not transfer automatically. You must create a new account in the 9.x apps using the setup wizard.      

  • Use 9.4.0 PC/Mac Desktop app to create the account (recommended), or 9.4.0 mobile app (less recommended). Note you cannot use 9.4.0 Web app to create the account.

  • Use the same email address (in all lowercase).

  • Password can be the same or different, but must:

    • Be at least 8 characters long

    • Include at least 1 letter and 1 digit

    • Contain no spaces

    • Pattern passwords are not supported

3. I didn’t receive the account verification email.

In rare cases, the verification email does not arrive. If it’s not in your Spam/Junk/Trash folder, submit a support ticket here and we can verify your account manually.

4. How do I migrate my old data?

The new Web app is designed for computers (Windows, Mac, Linux, Chromebook) and works with modern browsers like Firefox, MS Edge, Google Chrome, Brave, Opera, and Safari on Mac.

6. How to add a desktop shortcut to SplashID Pro 9.4.x Desktop app on a Windows PC?

Two methods exist here:
Method #1 -->
  1. If using Windows 11 OS which is at least version 24H2 or using any version of Windows 10 OS, pin 9.4.0 Desktop app to your Start menu.
  2. Now open Start menu and Ctrl+Shift drag the app icon to a location on your desktop. (then release Ctrl & Shift keys)
    (Note: On Windows 10 OS, if using Windows Start menu in full-screen mode, you may need to disable full-screen mode of it, then restore it when done adding the shortcut.)
Method #2 -->
  1. If using Windows 11 OS, and its version is 23H2 or older that will not work. So, run Windows Task Manager.
  2. Run 9.4.0 PC Desktop app.
  3. Then from Task Manager locate our running EXE file - splashid_pro_9.exe - right click it, choose Open file location.
  4. Windows OS should say you have no access to that folder, grant yourself access.
  5. Now you can create a shortcut to the splashid_pro_9.exe file and place that on your desktop.

7. How to run 9.4.x PC Desktop app automatically on startup?

  1.  First, please add a desktop shortcut to the 9.4.x PC Desktop app (see above).
  2. Now press Windows key + R to open the Windows 10/11 OS Run box.
  3. Type in shell:startup (press Enter)
  4. Your Startup folder will open - copy the desktop shortcut to it.
  5. On next restart or power off, then on of your PC, 9.4.x PC Desktop app should start automatically with Windows.
