How to Restore a Backup File in SplashID Safe Desktop?

How do I restore a backup file in SplashID Safe Desktop?

Restoring a Backup File

If you have no data in the SplashID Safe Desktop app, you can restore directly by locating the backup file you want to import and double-clicking it. You will be asked to enter the password that was set at the time the backup file was created.

If your SplashID Desktop contains problematic data, it is best to clear it before restoring:

  • Windows (Cloud Sync users): Go to Settings > Account Settings > Logout

  • Mac: Use File menu > Reset / Logout

During reset, choose the Archive option if available. After this, relaunch the SplashID Desktop and follow the guided setup.

If you already have good data stored in the cloud or on your mobile app, simply perform a sync to restore it to the desktop.

Auto-Backup File Locations

SplashID automatically saves backup files. The default locations are:

  • Windows: \Documents\SplashData\SplashID\Backup\

  • Mac (v.7): ~/Library/Containers/com.splashdata.splashidmac/Data/Library/SplashID Safe/Backup/

  • Mac (v.6): ~/Library/SplashID Safe/Backup/

Accessing the Hidden Library Folder on Mac

On macOS 10.7 or later, the Library folder is hidden. To access it:

  1. Open Finder

  2. Click the Go menu, then choose Go to Folder

  3. Paste the full backup path listed above
