Learn how to completely uninstall and reinstall SplashID Safe 8.4.x on Mac Desktop using Cloud Sync.
Follow these steps if your SplashID Safe 8.4.x Mac Desktop app:
Crashes or quits unexpectedly with an error
Does not accept your password
Is using the wrong email ID
Shows incorrect or incomplete data compared to your Web app
Before starting, make sure your records are correct and complete on the SplashID Safe 8.4.0 Web app.
Export your data to a vID or SVID file from the Mac Desktop app.
If you cannot log in to the Desktop app, skip this step.
Quit the SplashID Mac Desktop app if it is still running.
Open your Applications folder.
Drag the SplashID Safe 8.4.x app to the Trash Can.
Remove any SplashID icons from the Mac Dock.
If more than one copy of the app exists in Applications, delete them all.
Go to ~/Library/Containers/
Find the folder named com.splashdata.splashidmac (or SplashID Safe on macOS Big Sur or newer).
Rename it to com.splashdata.splashidmac_OLD or SplashID Safe_OLD.
If “_OLD” already exists, rename to _OLD2 or _OLD3.
If you find related folders such as com.splashdata.splashidsafe, SplashID, or SplashID Safe, rename them the same way.
Accessing the Hidden Library Folder on newer macOS versions:
In Finder, click the Go menu.
Hold the Option (Alt) key to reveal Library and click it.
Alternatively, use Shift + Command + G and type ~/Library/Containers/.
Remove any old preferences from ~/Library/Preferences/:
com.splashdata.splashidmac
com.splashdata.splashid
Any other files containing “splashid” in their names
Download the latest version (8.4.5, released January 2025) from the SplashID downloads page.
Install and then eject the installer from your Mac desktop.
Open the newly installed SplashID Safe 8.4.5 app.
You should see the setup screen.
If 2-factor authentication is enabled, enter the code sent by email or SMS (note: SMS option is being phased out).
If the setup screen does not appear and you still see the old login screen, repeat Steps 3 and 4.
Important Notes:
On macOS Catalina or later, you may see a security warning about the app being blocked. Follow the instructions given in the article SplashID Mac Key Safe/Desktop app - bypass macOS Gatekeeper.
Once logged in, perform a sync.
Your data from the SplashID Web app will be re-synced to your Mac Desktop app.
You may re-add SplashID Safe to your Mac Dock for quick access.
