These steps explain how to do a full reinstall (also called a “clean reinstall”) of the SplashID Desktop app for Windows. The instructions apply to the older 7.2.4 Windows Desktop app.
Before reinstalling, make sure you back up your data:
In the SplashID Desktop app, click the SplashID icon in the top-left corner to open the main menu.
Select Backup to save your data to a VID file.
If you already have a VID file backup, or if your records are safe on the mobile app or Web app, you can skip this step.
Exit the SplashID Desktop app if it is currently running.
Uninstall the SplashID Desktop app from the Windows Control Panel, the same way you uninstall any other program.
Go to \Documents\SplashData\SplashID\
.
Rename this folder to \Documents\SplashData\SplashID.old
.
This hides the folder from the desktop app but preserves the old data in case it needs to be restored.
Open the Run dialog from the Start Menu or by pressing Windows Key + R.
Type regedit
and press Enter. Approve any UAC prompts.
In the Registry Editor, navigate to:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/SplashData/
Delete the folder named SplashID Desktop.
Exit the Registry Editor.
Download the SplashID Desktop 7.2.4 installer here: Download SplashID 7.2.4 for Windows.
Install the app and log back into your SplashID account.
If you use Web/Cloud Sync, your data will automatically sync back into the reinstalled desktop app.
If you do not use Cloud Sync:
Delete any sample records from the desktop app.
Import your data from the VID backup file, or
Sync data from a mobile app, with the sync option set to Device overwrites desktop for the first sync.
After this process, the desktop app should be restored and functioning normally.
